Parish Planning Process
The Archdiocese of Louisville began the parish planning process in May 2025 to address evolving needs and potential challenges within the existing Archdiocesan structures.
This process involves parishes preparing reports by August, with a planning commission reviewing them and consulting with various groups from January to May 2026.
A final, comprehensive plan is expected to be prepared and announced before the end of 2026.
May - August 2025
Parish Studies: Parishes prepare reports detailing their statistics, strengths, and challenges.
October 2025 - January 2026
Parish Planning Recommendations: Parishes will receive reports from the other parishes in their deanery. Parishes will use this information to prepare recommendations for changes in parish structures and priest assignments.
January - May 2026
Planning Commission Review and Consultations: A planning commission reviews the reports and prepares draft plans for each deanery. Consultations with parishes and other groups (like retired priests and school leaders) take place.
June - October 2026
Preparation of Final Plan: The planning commission will prepare a single, comprehensive plan for the archdiocese to be announced before the end of 2026.
