Where There’s Smoke …
It’s been interesting lately (cough, cough) how fires in Canada have been affecting (cough, cough) our breathing in the Ohio Valley. It’s even been affecting our vision, with what looks like fog but is actually smoke. As the saying goes, where there’s smoke there’s fire. So those must be quite some fires they’re having in Ontario and Quebec for it to affect things hundreds of miles away.
It makes me wonder about the fire of Pentecost that we celebrated with our grand outdoor mass to close the Easter season some weeks ago. Is there “smoke” from that fire that is affecting those around us (in a good way)?
As we continue dealing with the aftermath of those fires in Canada, as well as the ones likely to develop in the western US, let’s be reminded of our need to stoke that Pentecost fire, until it lights the darkness for those who are lost and spreads the sweet smoke of the gospel to the neighborhoods around us.
