From the Desk of the Associate Pastor
Dear Friends:
On December 29, 2024, the Feast of the Holy Family, Archbishop Shelton and his brother bishops released a statement on the subject of immigration reform. It is a worthy read and can be downloaded in its entirety from the Catholic Conference of Kentucky web site (ccky.org).
In summary, the leadership of our local Church continues to affirm its solidarity with the migrant community. This support is based upon the Church’s long standing thought, reflection and advocacy for all human persons.
The statement notes that recent public discussion surrounding our migrant sisters- and brothers has “engendered fear and uncertainty.”
In the statement, the Archbishop invites all of us to action. Specifically, to learn more about the plight of immigrants; the values forming Church teaching on the matter; and to join in advocating for “just and comprehensive laws and policies that respond to the requirements of human rights and dignity and reflect the desire for the common in our nation.” Lots of words, I know, but this offers chances for lots of action.
I continue to pray, as well as reflect upon actions, to bring justice to our immigrant brothers- and sisters. I invite all of you to do the same.
Thoughts and suggestions will be included in future bulletins. I welcome the same at shenriksen@sfrlou.org.
Peace,
Father Steven
